Florida Deck

Hello and sorry it's been so long since our last post.  The end of the year got really hectic for us and you I'm sure.  Well we just got back from doing a large deck project in Florida.  the old existing deck was completely dilapidated. 

  When we tore the old one out we realized there was no type of footing or attachment to the ground.  We decided since the deck overhung the canal by about three feet and the stone was washing out due to boat traffic,  that we would over build the deck footings.   We put in three full length 12"x10" footings, seven 12" sonotube footings with #5 rebar tapped and epoxied into the coral and ten 12"x12" footings for the ends.
   

                                                                                 

    For the framing we used seven 4"x6"x16' beams for the main joists attached to the footings with bolt through post bases. Then we lagged double 2x6's for rim joists and used joist hangers to hang the rest of the joists at 12' oc.

   

     We used premium kiln dried pressure treated decking for this project.  We basically divided the deck into four sections and did an angled deck design all angled in toward the middle.  We also added a large used railroad tie planter and 10 tons of stone.  This was about a two week project.  The total deck dimensions were 24'x30'.  It was a great project to be on in the middle of January.
